Ventilation Grille, Interchange Level B

There's a particular quality of amber light that collects in the lower interchange corridors — the kind nobody planned for, just what's left after decades of bulb replacements that never quite matched the originals. I found this grille on a Tuesday morning, the ribbed concrete surround still carrying the optimism of whoever specified it in 1961, the paint at the edges doing what paint always does eventually. Shot on Ektachrome 100 in 6×7, because the film renders that greenish cast from the fluorescent strip above as something almost warm.
