I kept thinking about what happens to the ocean when no one is watching — whether it forgets which way is down. This one started as a coastal shelf at dusk and became something else entirely by the time I finished: the water peeling upward in slow ribbons, the canyon walls lit from inside like they swallowed the sun whole.
