The River That Forgot the Sea

I kept thinking about water that has nowhere left to go — so it just stops mid-fall and hangs there, lit from below by something amber and warm that has no source I can explain. The canyon walls breathe in purples and ochres, and the sky above them coils like a thought you almost had. This one came out of me at 3am and I haven't stopped looking at it since.
