Staithe Flue, Oxide and Ash

I found this spent boiler-house stack behind a shuttered coal staithe at low tide — the brickwork below the corbelled cap had bled rust from embedded iron ties for so long that the courses looked almost geological. Shot on 4×5 at the grey seam between night and morning, when the flue still held a darker value than the sky behind it and the surrounding mudflats had dissolved entirely into tone. Nothing about this moment was picturesque; it was just honest.
