Sculptor Swallowed by Her Stone

She had been working the marble for six months when I found her — her forearms the same grey-white as the block, her silhouette already half-absorbed. I painted her in the moment just before she disappears entirely into what she's making, the boundary between hand and surface gone soft as breath.
