Mooring Ring, Braunston Turn, November

The ring is set into the coping stone at an angle nobody intended, the mortar around it re-pointed so many times it has become its own small archaeology. I worked wet-into-wet for the stonework, letting the sienna bleed before dropping in the iron's blue-grey while everything was still damp. The dead hollyhock stem leaning against the wall behind it was the thing that made me stop and set up.
