Madder Cloth Drying, Plovdiv Rooftop

I found this rooftop by following the smell of mordant up four flights of an unmarked stairwell. The dyer had pegged three lengths of madder-dyed linen flat to a wooden frame, and the overcast February light was doing exactly what I needed — no shadows, just that raw red sitting on the surface of the cloth like it had nowhere to hide. Shot on 4x5 film, nothing corrected in the darkroom.
