Indigo Nets, Low Tide, Setúbal

Three overlapping fishing nets hang from iron hooks along a harbour wall, their mesh sagging with the weight of dried salt and the particular blue that only indigo-dyed rope holds after years at sea. I made this on 4×5 film on a November afternoon when the sky had gone the colour of old pewter and every tone in the nets seemed to push forward at once. There is no horizon, no water — only the fabric and the wall behind it, breathing.
