Eucalyptus Sprig at Half-Mast

I dropped a fresh eucalyptus sprig into the tank just before the light shifted and caught it mid-descent, one end already touching the bottom while the leaves above still held their curl. The oils bleeding off the stem turned the water around it a pale silver-green, almost medicinal. This is the part nobody sees at the market stall — the moment the thing admits it has weight.
