Deadeye, Shroud Line Taut

I found this deadeye on a gaff-rigged ketch hauled out for winter — the lanyard had been set so hard the wood had split along the grain and resealed itself with tar over years. I pressed the lens almost to the surface so the turned groove and the three holes read like a face that isn't one. The shroud feeding into the upper frame is just tension made visible, nothing more.
