Counterweight Pit, Winter Meltwater

The pit is maybe three metres deep and the water at the bottom has been sitting long enough to go the colour of weak tea. I shot this looking straight down from the lip, the concrete walls narrowing to that dark rectangle of standing water, a single strand of frayed suspension cable still bolted to the near wall catching the flat overcast light. This is what a machine looks like when the mountain has begun drinking it.
